Over 25 years ago Simon Cunliffe began his training at the renowned Savile Row tailor Anderson & Sheppard. In the same year that Alexander McQueen had just left the firm to launch his own fashion label
Anderson & Sheppard dates back to 1906, holding the Royal Warrant and at that time having a very well known client named Prince Charles. Whilst learning the trade as an apprentice tailor and cutter; Simon was opened up to the very best artisan tailors in the world and acquiring age old techniques that has allowed him to offer exceptional services to his customers
After 5 years Simon decided to embrace the contemporary edge of tailoring and join fashion designer and bespoke tailor Charlie Allen in the leafy suburbs of Upper Street, Islington. Charlie is a 3rd generation tailor, studied an MA in Menswear at the Royal College of Art and frequently lectures at the RCA. During his time with Charlie, it opened him up to the fashion world; working on the Clothes show and meeting other designers such as Ben de Lisi and Katharine Hamnett CBE. Charlie Allen went on to design the England football kit, working with the likes of Fabio Capello and David Beckham
An opportunity arose and Simon returned to Savile Row to join Maurice Sedwell, headed by the world famous Professor for tailoring Andrew Ramroop OBE. Under the watchful eye of Ramroop, this was where Simon learned the speciality for precision tailoring and honing his hand work to become a perfectionist in the art of hand sewing. Spending day after day, Simon would put together jacket bastes and perfect his art of tailoring
It was time to be at the forefront of the business, Simon made the move to Anthony J Hewitt at 9 Savile Row. They had acquired Airey & Wheeler (est 1883) who had an enviable reputation for lightweight tailoring worldwide and a client book past and present that was the talk of the Row (Sir Winston Churchill, Sir John Major, Martin Bell OBE and all the rest). Again the perfect opportunity to put one’s skill sets into action, and of course learn new one’s. Simon worked on other areas of the business, taking Airey & Wheeler into the made to measure era and creating new Ready to Wear collections for it’s discerning clientele
In 2008 through a mutual Savile Row contact, Simon was offered to launch a brand new tailoring concept store in Dubai. He would be the face of Savile Row and develop the brand for a fast growing expat customer base . He fronted the business on Arabic TV, featured in leading newspapers and fashion magazines to put the Savile Row brand out there for the UAE
Originally from the West country, Simon had decided to move back and start a family, where he set up Frazer Haart Bespoke & Tailored in 2014, which specialises in high-end personal tailoring throughout Bristol, the South West and up to Savile Row
